RE: Bypass around Austin

281 is a nice drive, but in reality I-35 is messed up only through the downtown area (unless it's rush hour, then shame on you). There are other toll-free short workarounds such as Mopac, but IMO it's not worth the time or effort.

RE: Garmin Nuvi 205 On Sale @ BestBuy

They "talk", but I'm not sure these low-enders pronounce street names. WalMart has the 200 on sale for $97, and functionally they are close to identical unless you exceed 500 waypoints. You can compare them at the Garmin site.

RE: EVDO router

Guess I'm the odd one out here. I have a D-Link DIR-450 wired straight to the battery and it has given me zero trouble from day one.

RE: 500GB external hard drive a good bet to store pictures?

As a few others on here are suggesting; If you're going to buy one, buy TWO and keep the primary backed up!! All of our historical pictures, important papers, insurance, etc., plus iTunes (hey, it's money spent) are in passworded and redundant drives at home, with a backup of that drive sitting in a safe deposit box, as well as the really important stuff on RAM drives for quick disaster access.
Overkill? Not in earthquake and brushfire country.

RE: Firefox either slow or not responding at all

Running 3.0.4 and have had and can recreate lockups with FF, specifically with Photobucket. These problems showed up with the last update.

RE: solar panels

I did the same system you are looking at doing on our '06 Meridian (Sister to the Journey). I also replaced my 3ea.12V batteries with 4ea. 6V GC's. I bought the entire system from AM Solar up in Oregon because they had (among other things) the only 21V panels that I could find, and I wanted the extra headroom. All 3 panels on the roof are held with Scotch VHB double sided tape, so no holes for the panels. I'll be adding at least one extra panel to round off at 400W (maybe before Quartzsite :) ). This install is on a 34H and I have lots of install pics. PM me if you'd like to see them.
Comments: I am not in any way anti-Camping World, but this is not their thing. Also, don't worry about service because other than catastrophic failure, there is none other than cleaning them off.

Page 6 and the picture of Gaylord Maxwell is printed backward was the first thing I noticed. Second the thinness of the magazine.Must be "Artistic License". Hey, maybe he was in Europe!

RE: Harbor Freight handheld HID light: BUY ONE!!!

Is the Harbor Freight light a better deal than the ones available on Ebay for less than $70 including shipping? Like this one:
http://i15.ebayimg.com/08/i/001/1f/1b/0f77_1.JPG
Listed as a Buy it Now for $64 here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-VECTOR-HID-35-WATT-POWER-ON-BOARD-FLASH-SPOT-LIGHT_W0QQitemZ170281772915QQcmdZViewItemQQptZFlashlights?hash=item170281772915&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318This is the exact one I bought at Sam's for $69.
I wouldn't trust this seller at all. They call it a Vector (which it is) one place, and B&D elsewhere. They also call it an HID (which it is), and Halogen elsewhere. That's enough for me to back off..

RE: Motorhome mag for January-rather thin.

I'm glad someone else started this because I would have!
Here is a sampling:
Apr: 115 pages
Jul: 115 pages
Aug: 99 pages
Sept:99 pages
Dec: 83 pages
JAN: 67 pages
If this is the trend they may go under before I have a chance to cancel my 20 year subscription.

RE: Harbor Freight handheld HID light: BUY ONE!!!

Not that I need another toy (not).. But what are you doing spectrum measurement on?
BTW- When I got mine I took it out back along with a 10,000,000CP 7" Halogen lantern lighting a canyon wall ~1/4mile out. The Halogen does a great job, until you fire the HID. Within 10sec. there is no trace whatsoever of the incandescent light on that hill :)

Are you sure it's not just your eye? I'm around SD & HD feeds all day long, and after you become accustomed to the HD picture, everything, including SD studio feeds look problematic.

Per Honda, the newer ones don't tow 4D even though the drive train is CRV.You sure about that?
The Motorhome Mag 2008 Dingy Tow Guide says it's still OK.

RE: Yellow satellite signal

I doubt it. You might have issues with the receiver hanging onto the stream but that too is doubtful unless the transformer is directly in the beam of the dish and is arching. Take your compass to a different location and take your bearings again. See if you can dead-recon a landmark several miles out that you can return to the dish and point to.

How is the battery life?Just spent close to 40min under the coach with it and it did fine.
GANDUDE: The switch is in the handle. It won't turn on unless a human finger does it.

RE: Harbor Freight handheld HID light: BUY ONE!!!

Sam's has this identical lantern (in black) for $70. It's somewhere between 20-30,000,000 CP and makes you look like The Luxor in the CG. HERE is it's big brother with an 11" reflector.
GANDUDE: Someplace around here (Pop Sci, etc.) I have a review of LED flashlights to which this Wicked Lasers was in the running. It was removed from the competition because it caught fire, and there were other complaints about it as well (don't remember).

RE: Wireless router problem

Take a look at the router's wireless config. Somewhere in there there may be a selection to transmit in 'B', 'G', 'N', or some iteration of 'All'. Whatever it says, make sure that 802.11B is part of the mix. One of the 4 PC's hanging on mine is an older Mac that only talks 802.11B, and has all kinds of connect issues if I don't configure the router the way it wants.

RE: Fuel prices in Quartzsite, AZ

This link from MSN works for me. The Flying J at the AZ/CA line is the cheapest.
While in that direction go on over into Blythe. You will find a large supermarket there. Then, too, the Walmart in Parker may be open by now.If you're talking about the one on the Calif side, it's going to be WAY more expensive than anything in Az.
Jeff, I wasn't aware that Flying J had a stop on the Calif. side of the river. When did they build it? It does not show on my searches.Wasn't sure it was a Flying-J, or something else. I filled up there in the middle of a downpour so wasn't paying attention. All I remember is that it was a truckstop, then some really colorful words carefully arranged when I saw the price of #2 in Q.

RE: Digital to Analog converter doesn't have analog pass-thru

If it were me I think I would split the antenna into the switchbox and the input to the STB, then use an AB switch box to select and call it a day. Not the best solution because there is a 3db loss through the splitter, but it's good in a pinch.(see email)
